Gray Whale breaching

A Whale of a Valentine's Day

This year, forget about the flowers, jewelry, and candy. Instead, make some special Valentine’s Day memories with a whale-watching cruise.

The Grey Whale Migration off the California coast begins in February and usually lasts through the middle or end of April. After being brought near to extinction by the whaling industry, they were given full protection in 1947 by the International Whaling Commission, and their numbers are now estimated in the low thousands.

Whale-watching cruises are a fun and educational way to honor these glorious mammals. You’ll have a ringside seat for close-up views of the whales, along with dolphins, sea lions, and various species of shore birds. Stay warm and cozy in the cockpit of the craft, or enjoy a close encounter laying on a trampoline net that extends out over the water. Feeling even more adventurous? Slip into a wetsuit and snag a stand-up paddleboard to get even closer to the herd!
