Celebrate the State Flower at the California Poppy Festival

This April 22-23, join us at the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve for the annual California Poppy Festival. Located about an hour away from the Airtel Plaza, the reserve will play host to a dazzling display of brilliant orange poppies, along with food, music, and art. You’ll also get a closer look at other flora and fauna of the western Mojave Desert, including hawks, lizards, snakes, and maybe even a coyote or bobcat!

Before you set out for the celebration, here are a few tips:

  • Don’t bring pets – only service animals are permitted.
  • Spring can be very windy and even rainy here, so wear layers and comfortable shoes.
  • Bring along sunglasses and sunblock
  • Don’t pick the flowers – everything is protected, and is integral to the desert’s ecosystem.
  • Coolers, bikes, radios, skates, skateboards, scooters, alcoholic beverages, and Frisbees are prohibited.

The entry gates will open at 10:00 a.m. on both festival days, but the reserve is also open from sunrise to sunset daily year-round. For more information, call (661) 724-1180.
