Famous Players Orchestra Perform at Cinecon 53

Before the “talkies” took over Hollywood, silent films dominated the industry, along with the music written to accompany them. Uncredited and unrecorded, original cinematic music was created by talented composers. When the age of silents was over, much of this music was considered lost, until the movement for historic film restoration and preservation began. Along with the silents themselves, many of the original historic orchestrations have also been preserved. The Famous Players Orchestra, a nonprofit group of professional musicians in the Los Angeles area, is committed to the recording and performance of this music, and to honoring this integral part of film history.

On August 31, the Famous Players Orchestra will perform their score in accompaniment to Buster Keaton’s classic, “Steamboat Bill Jr.” at the opening gala evening of the 53rd annual Cinecon Classic Film Festival. Dedicated to offbeat films and those movies that are seldom shown in public, the festival has become a favorite tradition for cinephiles. Cinecon 53 runs from August 31st - September 4th, and features five days of film screenings, celebrity guests, and movie memorabilia. All screenings will be held at Grauman's Egyptian Theater.
