Classic Holiday Movies & Meteor Showers

This year, make some holiday memories with local fun and family-friendly events featuring great ways to celebrate outdoors. First, load up an expedition of friends and family and climb Mount Hollywood to watch the Geminid meteor shower. This annual display of nature’s own holiday show is anticipated to peak on December 13-14, and will produce as many as 120 meteors per hour. Viewing conditions this year are predicted to be ideal, as the moon will be in a crescent phase, making the sky dark enough for a brilliant show. Optimal viewing is after midnight, with meteors shooting out from the constellation of Gemini.

Next, join the crew of the Rooftop Cinema Club atop the famous Montalban Theater for month-long viewings of your favorite holiday films. Relax in a comfy deck chair with snacks and drinks during the showings of such classics as “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “A Muppet Christmas Carol,” “Trading Places,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “Scrooged,” “Elf,” “Love Actually,” “White Christmas,” “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, “ and many other seasonal favorites.
