Shakespeare Summer Nights

Shakespeare in the park—what a fabulous way to wind up the summer season! From now through September 1, the Independent Shakespeare Company will be performing not one, but two of the Bard’s best at the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival. Showing through August 30 is “Pericles,” directed by Melissa Chalsma. This epic adventure spans decades and countries as young Pericles sets sail, as does his daughter… 25 years later. Additionally, “Twelfth Night,” directed by David Manville, will be performed through September 1. This beloved favorite features a twist on the original version that sets the story and its characters in the fabled Jazz era.

And, don’t miss out on the fun of the myriad theme nights during the festival. Come out for Greek & Roman Gods Night on August 9, an audience potluck on August 15, Pirate Night on August 17, and more. While performances and events are free, attendees are reminded that donations are gratefully accepted. Don’t forget your blankets, beach chairs, and jackets for cooler evenings, but please leave the alcohol and pets at home. Concessions are available but you're welcome to bring picnic goodies too!
