Take a Walking Tour of Historic Van Nuys

If you’ve never heard of the Robert Morgan Organ Company, the story of the Daily News, or “Wednesday Nights on Van Nuys Boulevard,” the Van Nuys walking tour is for you. Sponsored by the Museum of the San Fernando Valley, these 1 ½ hour tours will fascinate and surprise you. You’ll see original 1911 buildings, and some of the area’s first churches, along with Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monuments, and monuments on the National Register of Historic Places. Founders William Paul Whitsett, Wayne E. Bechtelheimer, and Whitley Van Nuys Huffaker were responsible for taking Van Nuys from its humble beginnings as a barley field to what it has become today.

And, an extra-special thanks from all movie lovers goes to Hobart Johnstone (H.J.) Whitley, who would later be known as the “Father of Hollywood.”  Join the tour to view historic photos and hear the stories about the founders, the nationwide silent movie organ company, and to relive the history. To join the tour, meet up under the arch at 6262 Van Nuys Boulevard (at the corner of Sylvan) on Sunday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. The tour lasts until 3:30 p.m., and the cost is $10 per person. For more information and details, call the museum at (818) 347-9665, or email:
